Human in the loop

Human in the Loop, Defined

AI can accelerate the workflow. It shouldn't eliminate review. Here's how the loop works on a real project.

The short version

A person sets the direction. AI does the volume work.

Nothing becomes a repeatable template until the data shows it works. Every piece ships with tracking, and the results decide what happens next.

Brand and voice → Messaging and assets → Test → Template what works → Measure and steer → back to messaging

Human in the loop
Five steps

How it works, step by step

Example used below: a non-QM wholesale lender marketing to mortgage brokers.

Step 01

Brand and voice

What we do

Start with the people, not the tools. Who are the brokers, what do they care about and how should the lender sound to them? We define the voice, the messaging pillars, the words to use and avoid, and the details that appear every time, like the NMLS number and Equal Housing language.

What AI does

Reads the lender's existing content, competitor sites and the way brokers talk online, then drafts voice options for us to refine.

In the example

One brand guide. Every post carries the company name, NMLS number, Equal Housing text and full address. Brokers are addressed as business owners, not borrowers.

Step 02

Messaging and assets

What we do

Choose the angles worth testing and define what each asset has to accomplish.

What AI does

Drafts copy variations and builds designs from the brand kit, so a week of posts or a month of emails takes hours instead of days. We edit and approve every piece before it ships.

In the example

Scenario posts for LinkedIn (asset depletion, bank statement, DSCR), monthly broker emails and scenario pages written so AI tools can cite them.

Step 03

Test before anything becomes a template

What we do

Run two or three versions of the same idea and watch which one earns attention. Nothing becomes a template on a hunch.

What AI does

Produces the variations quickly, so testing doesn't slow the calendar.

In the example

Broker emails split by follow-up path. Brokers who open get one follow-up, brokers who click get another. [Add one real test and winner]

Step 04

Template what works

What we do

Turn the proven versions into templates and automations, and document why they work so the voice holds as volume grows.

What AI does

Fills the templates with new material each week, like fresh market news or a new scenario, inside the rules already set.

In the example

Proven post formats became brand templates. A daily news feed drafts new posts in the approved formats for review.

Step 05

Measure and steer

What we do

Read the numbers every month and decide what gets more effort, what gets fixed and what gets cut. If a tactic can't be measured directly, we say what the available signal can and can't tell us.

What AI does

Pulls reporting together across channels and flags what changed.

In the example

Every asset ships with tracking: opens, clicks, engagement, broker replies and AI mentions. The monthly review sets next month's focus, and the loop starts again at step 2.

People

Where people stay in charge

Always a person's call
Strategy and brand voice
Final approval on every piece

What gets cut when the data says so

Data

What AI never touches

Client financials, borrower or investor documents, policyholder records and other private data stay out of public AI tools.

  • Client financials
  • Borrower documents
  • Investor documents

  • Other private data
Questions

Human in the loop, answered

Is AI-written marketing safe for a regulated firm?

It can be, with a human in the loop. A person approves every piece before it goes out, and no client data goes into public AI tools. AI can accelerate the workflow. It shouldn't eliminate review.
